Absolutely no depth to the background of the players, Amelia and "rookie" in particular; how a consultant commands such authority with external police services is laughable. We’d love your help. After the disappointment of "The Skin Collector" I did not want to read any more Rhyme/Sachs books.

. It suggests to me, we've got the characters, now let's think of a plot. Mediocre Deaver is still good and I've been wanting to read a new Rhyme for a few months now, but I couldn't help but be a little disappointed.

Positively sealed the fate for me when the author used exclamation points throughout the chapters. Not sure if I will purchase any other books by this author even though the ending of this book sets up the next one. However, there is also a meta-surprise, in that the author goes beyond the usual serial killer hunt and creates complication after complication.
